Hakka Legend Asian Cuisine is seeking a skilled and motivated First Cook to join our culinary team located in Ajax ON. The First Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals, maintaining kitchen standards, and leading kitchen staff during service. This position plays a key role in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and excellent food presentation in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and cook high-quality meals according to menu specifications and recipes.
• Supervise and ensure the correct preparation of ingredients and cooking techniques.
• Maintain consistency in the taste, presentation, and portion sizes of all dishes.
• Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff regarding special requests, dietary restrictions or allergies.
• Supervise and support line cooks and kitchen staff during meal preparation and service.
• Lead and oversee other kitchen staff, including line cooks and prep cooks, during service hours.
• Delegate tasks and ensure smooth kitchen operations.
• Monitor portion control to avoid wastage and maintain cost efficiency.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen workstations.
• Ensure food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards are strictly followed.
• Monitor ingredient levels and help with stock management.
• Report shortages to the Restaurant Manager and assist with ordering supplies.
• Recruit and hire the kitchen staff.
• Train new kitchen staff on proper procedures, cooking techniques, and safety standards.
• Collaborate with Restaurant Manager to update and implement the menu.
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and timing.
• Work efficiently under pressure during peak service hours.
• Adapt to changing priorities, such as special menu items or dietary needs.
• Quickly address issues such as food delays, equipment problems, or staff performance concerns.
Job Type: Permanent Full-time
Salary: $36 hourly for 30 hours per week
Requirements:
• No formal education requirement
• One year of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen
• Excellent knife skills and familiarity with various cooking techniques.
• Strong communication and time management skills.
