Permanent employment, Full-time, 40 hours/week

Salary: $27.00/hour

We are actively looking for an experienced sous chef that can demonstrate adequate knowledge and understanding of a high-quality batch cooking, restaurant kitchen catering to a variety of events (casual, office, weddings, baby showers, etc.).

You must be passionate about international, Brazilian, and French cuisine, possess detailed technique and open to exploring new cooking techniques and progressive seasonal menus.

Summary of Position:

As Sous Chef, you will work with the Executive Chef to oversee the kitchen and ensure the highest standards are consistently maintained in the entire food program. You are expected to work in a safe and sanitary manner.

Responsibilities:
– Supervise and lead other kitchen staff effectively and build strong team relationship
– Create new menus/recipes regularly
– Prepare meals for both elegant and casual events
– Manage purchasing and inventory of kitchen supplies & food
– Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory
– Prepare and cook international, Brazilian, and French cuisine
– Ability to instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food with patience
– Ensure the quality of the food in all areas of the day-to-day operation meets restaurant standards
– Monitor kitchen staff for performance, punctuality, health, and safety
– Coach and develop new and present kitchen staff
– Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
– Research market competition and trends of rival restaurants
– You are required to work a station and assist in organizing and executing of special events
– Prepare high quality healthy meals
– Work in compliance with restaurant Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
– Negotiate with suppliers
– Understand client needs by consulting with clients for special events such as weddings, banquets, baby showers etc.
– Coordinate with catering staff to ensure smooth running of event
– Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
– Recruit and hire staff
– Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food

Requirements:
– 2+ years of experience in international, Brazilian, and French cuisine, menu creation, kitchen management
– Post-secondary Diploma or Certificate in Culinary cuisine or related field
– Fluent in English
– Fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese an asset
– Team player and good leadership
– Excellent communication and time management
– Creative with great attention to detail
– Excellent teaching abilities
– Excellent ability to multitask and work under pressure
– Knowledge of various cuisines and cooking techniques
