Job Description and Qualifications:
Cleaner must be able to clean and maintain the interior and exterior of commercial, institutional and residential buildings and their surrounding grounds.
Job Duties:
• Must be fully vaccinated with Covid 19;
• Conduct all work in accordance with company procedures and training, Details will be provided upon hiring;
• Must be able to complete incident reports and perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities;
• Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) preferred;
• May move heavy equipment, furniture, and supplies;
• Clean snow and ice from walkways and the entrance and exit side of the building and salt walkways and lots;
• Defrost and clean the refrigerator and microwaves;
• Clean stairwells, scaffolding, elevator cabs were ladders are required;
• Clean designated building areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, restroom cleaning, window cleaning, garbage’s, recycling and replenish supplies in bathrooms);
• Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities;
• Carry out heavy cleaning tasks and special projects;
• Respond to emergency calls with the use of a pager;
• Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repair;
• Stock and maintain supply rooms and workers’ cart;
• Be able to problem solve and maintain cleaning equipment;
• Cooperate with the rest of the staff and be a team player;
• Follow all health and safety regulations;
• Must be able to use company phone to sign in/out and use sign off for daily tasks and routine audit;
• Will be using upright vacuums, small, medium, and large walk behind auto scrubbers, buffers and burnishers and carpet extractor daily;
• Strip and finish hard surface floors manually or with swing machine and auto scrubber when required;
• Wax hard surface floor as often as needed;
• Able to use propane burnisher equipment on a daily basis;
• Shampoo carpet and use carpet extraction equipment to clean carpets;
• Spot cleans walls, partitions, light switches and doors, windowsills;
• Clean and polish chrome and other polished metal surfaces;
• Clean partition glass that is within arm’s reach;
• May also be scheduled to do other tasks such as outdoor maintenance (may include landscaping duties, pressure washing);
• High dusting, performed at floor level;
• Dust all furniture in buildings;
• Clean and disinfect washroom fixtures using mild chemicals; and
• Dusts baseboards and low air vents.
Skills (education, experience):
• Completion of High School Diploma;
• Two years or more of previous cleaning experience as a janitor or cleaner;
• Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery;
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies;
• Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills;
• Excellent time management and problem-solving skills/ must adhere to tight deadlines/respond quickly to situations/be able to effectively execute solutions;
• Ability to work independently and as a team;
• Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy;
• Ability to work without supervision;
• Driver’s License and own vehicle (preferred);
• Must follow Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) guidelines during current pandemic, and be comfortable wearing a mask while working;
• Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work for extended periods of time; and
• Be able to lift to 50 lbs.
Language of Work: English
Wage: $ 18.00 to $20.00 an hour, 40 hours per week; Shifts include day shifts, evening shifts and overnight shifts, weekday, weekend, and holidays.
