The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The Enforcement Branch supports the OSC in delivering fair, vigorous and timely enforcement. The Enforcement Branch investigates and litigates breaches of securities laws in Ontario. Staff works closely with other securities regulators, self-regulatory organizations and law-enforcement agencies to enhance initiatives to fight misconduct. A strong enforcement presence assists in protecting investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and fostering fair and efficient markets.

The Business Analytics and Solutions Unit of the Enforcement Branch is currently recruiting for a Senior Research & Reporting Analyst to actively lead the collection and documentation of business requirements in order to support the delivery of business solutions, and data and reporting requirements to advance the OSC’s regulatory mandate. This includes interacting with various levels within Enforcement and looking to provide guidance to a variety of stakeholders on a range of complex issues.

What will you do?

Report Writing and Analytics

·         Prepare key internal and external accountability reporting to Committees, the OSC Board, Commissioners and others by leading the process of analyzing information and data to inform the planning and development process within a team environment.

·         Develop, maintain and report, using Branch-wide performance measures to better reflect how the Branch is meeting its mandate.

·         Ability to synthesize complex submissions from a variety of subject matter experts and craft highly consumable written reporting.

·         Analyze business data related to our operations while establishing a suite of high-quality reports through defining key operational performance indicator targets to provide comprehensive information for strategic management decisions.

·         Prepare written reports by reviewing and analyzing large sets of data, and identifying and synthesizing key messages.

Research & Analysis

·         Provide strategic advice to the management team and identify developments or improvements that impact the Branch’s operational work.

·         Conduct market and industry research on latest reporting KPIs, industry best practices and benchmarks.

·         Interpret information related to Enforcement operations, analyze data, and present and report issues, findings and trends that impact on the work of the Branch.

·         Prepare and design presentations on reporting dashboards, KPIs and other critical metrics for senior management and Branch strategy implementation.

·         Use internal database, analytics and reporting tools to analyze business performance data to produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports.

·         Recommend, and work with BAS team members to identify, new reporting to promote cohesion between Enforcement and other branches.

Project Management & Reporting Improvements

·         Act as the Enforcement Branch point of contact for OSC-wide operational and accountability reporting.

·         Develop project plans to ensure inputs from all Enforcement units are received and OSC reporting timelines are met.

·         Work to increase operational visibility on referral projects and ensure accuracy on sanctions and collections processes.

·         Liaise effectively with BAS team members, and Senior and Executive Management on opportunities to improve reporting standards, and data governance, and work with them to recommend credible and feasible methods for improvement.

What do you need to succeed?

·         Undergraduate degree in communications or business, or another related discipline.  Master’s degree an asset.

·         Experience building professional PowerPoint presentations for senior stakeholders, with advanced MS PowerPoint skills.

·         5-7 years of senior-level experience working as an advisor, typically gained in a consulting firm, financial institution, or government office, with particular emphasis on experience developing professional reports and presentations for Senior Management and Executives.

·         Experience with analytics and/or reporting tools such as Tableau, Adobe or other BI design tools is ideal.

·         Experience in crafting written reporting for a variety of senior stakeholders.

·         Experience with leading, developing, and delivering effective reports, presentations and briefing notes.

·         Experience with analyzing high volumes of data from a variety of sources and formulating data into simple, complete and concise qualitative and quantitative formats.
