Job Description

Temporary, full-time position (from January 9, 2023 to February 26, 2027) – Guelph, ON

The Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI) at the University of Guelph (U of G) is the focal point for research and training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University. It uniquely combines ethics, governance, and social responsibility with technical leadership. CARE-AI supports academic programs and training programs that incorporate AI ethics and the responsible usage of AI.

The CARE About AI program is a public, multitier training program designed to provide in-career workers and entrepreneurs with the ability to gain appropriate levels of AI knowledge to support their professional growth and to improve their career opportunities. This is where you come in.

As Manager, Professional Development, you will be principally responsible for supporting the training efforts of the Centre. Reporting to the Managing Director, CARE-AI, you will lead the development of the training modules, course, and content, along with organizing delivery of the CARE About AI training program. This role combines strategic responsibility with hands-on creativity, and we are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who is collaborative and motivated to help people achieve an understanding of AI to make the world better.

Your key responsibilities will include:

·         Leading the instructional design and development processes for all tiers of the training program

·         Developing and nurturing key relationships with content providers and subject matter experts, including CARE-AI Affiliated Faculty, external contract instructors, academics at other institutions, industry professionals and technology partners

·         Assisting subject matter experts in producing content and courses

·         Project management of the course and content design along with organizing the delivery of the programs

·         Conducting needs assessments to ensure product-market fit between customers and training offerings

·         Working with technology providers to ensure that the delivery platform achieves overall customer experience expectations

·         Monitoring current and emerging trends in education, training and delivery technology to ensure that the CARE About AI program reflects state-of-the-art methodology and strong pedagogy

·         Keeping abreast of ongoing developments and perspectives in responsible AI

·         Managing the customer satisfaction processes, including surveys, key metrics (NPI, CSAT) and the service recovery process

·         Developing and evolving the portfolio of training, including the opportunity to achieve credentials, badges, and follow identifiable learning pathways and stackable courses

·         Representing the Centre at internal/external meetings, trade shows, conferences, or other events

REQUIREMENTS

Meeting the expectations of the Manager, Program Development role calls for a creative, collaborative and entrepreneurial professional with a profile that includes:

Ÿ  An undergraduate degree in a related field. A master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, Adult Education, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Management Analytics would be preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ÿ  Previous experience providing instructional design guidance in an academic or training environment.

Ÿ  Demonstrated project management skills using appropriate tools to ensure on-schedule delivery of materials.

Ÿ  A sincere interest in gaining knowledge of AI and Machine Learning (ML).

Ÿ  Strong written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation and facilitation skills.

Ÿ  Proficiency with software and technology, including typical office applications and, specifically, graphics editing and presentation tools.

Ÿ  Skill in designing and developing new learning solutions in a variety of delivery formats (in-person, hybrid, online, asynchronous).

Ÿ  Experience planning events, ideally in a training or academic context.

Ÿ  Strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.

ASSETS:

Ÿ  Pre-existing AI/ML knowledge.

Ÿ  Web Design, graphic design, digital photography, videography, animation, sound recording, and sound editing skills.
