Taste of Sri Lanka, a restaurant specializing in Sri Lankan traditional and gourmet cuisine, is looking for 3 Cooks to join our team immediately. Our restaurant, and the location of work, is located at The Forks, 1 Forks Market Rd, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4L9.
This is a permanent, full-time position of 40 hours/week with a salary of $18/hour plus shared tips, 4% vacation pay, potential overtime at $27/hour, CPP and eligibility for group benefit plan. The language of work for this position is English.
The main responsibilities for this position include:
· Preparing and cooking Sri Lankan food for customers by following, in detail, our restaurant’s authentic recipes along with any additional preferences indicated by customer;
· Collaborating with other kitchen staff to ensure minimal food wastage, adequate quantities of inventory, food freshness and safety;
· Ensuring high food quality, presentation and temperature, and ensuring all dietary restrictions were respected during the cooking process;
· Maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen space as well as food safety and quality standards;
· Assisting in the development of new recipes, menu items and special or seasonal offerings;
· Assisting in planning menus, catering options and specials as needed;
· Participating in the creation process of new menu items, its serving size, plating and price;
· Brainstorming new menu items;
· Conducting recipe testing and collecting feedback;
· Assisting in periodic review and updates to the restaurant’s menu; and
· Training new kitchen staff, as needed.
You must have the following qualifications:
· Experience as a Cook in the restaurant industry, and specifically in Sri Lankan cuisine;
· Knowledge of and experience with the preparation techniques and traditional ingredients of Sri Lankan food;
· Demonstrated ability to substitute ingredients on short notice, while maintaining good taste and quality; and
· Familiarity with the Canadian food handling standards is preferred.
